Low water pressure in one faucet or the whole house? Map the pattern first

Homeowners often use 'pressure' to describe both actual water pressure and reduced flow through one fixture. A faucet with sediment in its aerator can feel weak while the supply system remains normal. Conversely, a hidden leak or regulator problem may affect several fixtures at once.
Do not adjust a pressure regulator, well switch, pump control, or municipal meter. These systems can involve stored pressure, electricity, utility ownership, and code requirements.

For one affected faucet, remove and clean the aerator only if its method is understood and the finish can be protected. Capture debris in a bowl and note whether it followed recent plumbing work or a water-heater flush. Reinstall parts in order and leak-test.
Look for closed valves and leak evidence
Visually confirm accessible fixture shutoffs have not been bumped and inspect under sinks, around toilets, appliances, the water heater, and the service route for dampness. Do not force a corroded or unfamiliar main valve to solve a pressure complaint.
Ask whether the utility or neighborhood changed
Check utility notices, hydrant work, main repairs, and whether neighbors have the same issue. Record the time of day. A municipal supply event needs different follow-up from a private well pump cycling or losing pressure.
Escalate the system-wide pattern
Call the water utility or a plumber for sudden whole-house pressure loss, suspected service leak, recurring pressure swings, noisy pipes, failed regulator signs, or sediment throughout the home. Well systems need a qualified well professional when the pump, tank, switch, or water quality is involved.
