Why does the circuit breaker keep tripping? Do not make the reset the repair
Overload, a damaged appliance, a short circuit, ground fault, arc fault, or circuit defect can all operate a breaker. The connected-load pattern is the safe evidence a homeowner can collect.

A breaker is a protective device, not an inconvenience to be held on or upsized. Repeated operation indicates a condition the circuit or connected equipment cannot safely carry. Never replace a breaker with a larger rating, tape it in position, or move conductors to another circuit as a workaround.
Arc-fault and ground-fault breakers can detect hazards different from a conventional overload. Record the breaker label, indicator behavior, equipment in use, and timing without removing the dead front or testing exposed wiring.
The short answer
Unplug loads on the affected circuit, note what was running, and reset the breaker once only if there is no heat, smoke, moisture, damage, or burning odor and the panel is safe to access. If it trips again or no clear overload explains it, leave it off and call a licensed electrician.
Stop and scan for immediate danger
Leave the area and use emergency help for smoke or fire. Do not touch the panel when it is wet, visibly damaged, buzzing, arcing, unusually hot, or smells of burned insulation. A shock, tingling appliance, or damaged service equipment requires professional response.
List everything that lost power
From safe areas, note lights, receptacles, appliances, outdoor equipment, and fixed loads on the affected circuit. Record what switched on immediately before the trip. A portable heater plus another high-draw appliance differs from a trip with no load change.
Disconnect portable loads
Unplug accessible devices on the circuit and inspect their cords and plugs. Do not reconnect anything damaged, wet, hot, or discolored. Fixed appliances and hardwired equipment should remain off until the cause is understood.
Reset once under safe conditions
If there is no danger sign and the panel is dry and intact, follow the panel and breaker instructions: move the handle fully off, then on. If it will not reset or trips again, leave it off. Do not repeat the process to keep equipment running.
Give an electrician the load history
Provide the panel label, breaker type and rating visible from the front, rooms and devices affected, recent renovations, weather or moisture, and what happened during the single reset. Recurring trips, an unclear circuit map, or fixed-equipment involvement needs licensed diagnosis.
